INAIL Information Sheet 2026 – Exposure To Formaldehyde In Pathological Anatomy Laboratories

 

Following the new INAIL information sheet 2026 (Italian National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work), which clearly specify the need to adopt effective technical and organizational measures against formaldehyde, including:

1. The possibility of adopting closed-cycle processes*
2. Workstations with downward air extraction**
3. Reducing the number of potentially exposed workers***

Hiplaas is fully compliant with each of these points:

1. Hiplaas offers complete solutions even for laboratories that face difficulties in exhausting fumes outside, through certified products with a tested efficiency of 98%. Our DPM1000, a cabinet with 7 filtration stages, allows air to be recirculated within the same room by extracting fumes from the workstation or, if used independently, by capturing toxic vapors from below, purifying and decontaminating them, and safely reintroducing clean air into the environment.

2. After years of using chemical fume hoods with top extraction and a protective glass panel (commonly referred to as a “sash”), which is routinely kept raised, INAIL has finally clarified that toxic fumes MUST be directed downward. Hiplaas, by offering “open” workstations with down-draft (as well as back-draft) extraction for over 20 years, has always supported this approach based on the nature of formaldehyde fumes. Being heavier than air, these fumes naturally tend to sink and should therefore simply be conveyed downward, preventing them from reaching the operator’s face and respiratory tract, which is what happens with traditional fume hoods. The glass panel, often marketed as a safe protection, is NEVER mentioned by INAIL, even if it were always kept in the correct position (with an opening of only 15–20 cm).

Furthermore, another key aspect that Hiplaas has always prioritized must not be overlooked: ergonomics. Without a physical glass barrier, the operator can move more freely and comfortably, adopting a more natural working posture. This results not only in safer operations but also in improved comfort. In this regard, we also highlight the ample legroom and the lifting system that distinguish our grossing stations.

Hiplaas workstations have been CERTIFIED for fume containment by an accredited company and have undergone stress tests conducted by the PIN institute in Prato. Thanks to their seamless design, free of joints, silicone, and exposed screws, they prevent the accumulation of dirt and paraformaldehyde, which can otherwise lead to toxic emissions that are often underestimated.

3. Thanks to its fully automated grossing station, equipped with voice commands and an onboard dictation system, Hiplaas enables operators to work independently, without the need for additional personnel to perform tasks such as taking photos, recording videos, making measurements, or preparing final reports. In this way, the requirements set by INAIL are met not only in the 2026 guidelines but already in the 2022 recommendations****.

Hiplaas, fully aligned with INAIL’s directives, offers a wide range of solutions to help laboratories comply with regulations and, above all, to provide a safe and healthy working environment, ensuring that every operator receives the level of protection they deserve.

A seguito della nuova scheda informativa INAIL 2026 (Italian National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work) in cui si specifica chiaramente la necessità di adottare misure efficaci, tecniche e organizzative, contro la formaldeide quali:

1. Possibilità di adozione di processi a ciclo chiuso*
2. Banconi con aspirazione dal basso**
3. Ridurre il numero di lavoratori potenzialmente esposti***

Hiplaas risulta completamente conforme a ciascuno di questi punti:

1. Hiplaas offre soluzioni complete anche ai laboratori che hanno difficoltà nell’espulsione dei fumi all’esterno attraverso prodotti certificati e con efficacia testata al 98%. Il nostro DPM1000, armadio con 7 stadi di filtrazione, permette di ricircolare l’aria all’interno della stessa stanza aspirando i fumi dalla stazione di lavoro o, se indipendente, pescando i vapori tossici dal basso, purificandoli, decontaminandoli e reimmettendoli in maniera sicura nell’ambiente.

2. Dopo anni di utilizzo di cappe chimiche con aspirazione dall’alto e vetro di protezione (in gergo chiamato saliscendi) puntualmente utilizzato sollevato, finalmente l’INAIL fa chiarezza specificando chiaramente che i fumi tossici DEVONO essere convogliati verso il basso. Hiplaas, offrendo da oltre 20 anni stazioni “aperte” con aspirazione “down-draft” (oltre che back-draft) sostiene da sempre questa tesi facendo fede alla natura dei fumi di formaldeide.  Essi, essendo più pesanti dell’aria, tendono già di per sé a scendere e quindi vanno semplicemente convogliati verso il basso senza dargli la possibilità di raggiungere il viso e quindi le vie respiratorie dell’operatore, cosa che invece succede con le cappe classiche. Il vetro infatti, che spesso viene venduto come una protezione sicura, anche se stesse sempre nella posizione corretta (con un’apertura di soli 15-20cm) non viene MAI citato dall’INAIL.

Inoltre non dobbiamo dimenticare un altro punto molto importante che Hiplaas predilige da sempre: l’ergonomia. Senza una parete vetrata fisica l’operatore riuscirà sicuramente a muoversi in maniera più ergonomica e comoda, quindi non solo lavorerà in maniera più sicura ma anche nella posizione per lui più naturale. Citiamo a proposito anche l’ampio spazio per le gambe ed il sistema di elevazione che contraddistingue le nostre grossing stations.

Le stazioni di lavoro Hiplaas sono state CERTIFICATE per il contenimento dei fumi da un’azienda accreditata, sono state sottoposte a stress test condotti dal PIN di Prato e grazie al loro design privo di giunture, siliconi e viti a vista non permettono allo sporco ed alla paraformaldeide di accumularsi e provocare emissioni tossiche che spesso vengono sottovalutate.

3. Hiplaas grazie alla sua grossing station completamente automatizzata, con comandi vocali e sistema di dettatura a bordo permette all’operatore di poter lavorare in autonomia, senza il supporto di altre persone per compiere operazioni quali foto, video, misurazioni o report finali. In questo modo viene rispettato quanto richiesto dall’INAIL non solo nelle linee guida del 2026 ma già nel 2022****
